Today we laid low in Bangkok. Andi was still sick with the flu so I ordered room service, laid out at the pool and watched a dozen of crappy movies on TV. Of all the hotels we've stayed at on this trip, this one is the most convenient for our situation. Four restaurants inside the hotel makes room service easy and the TV gets 12 American channels - 12! That's about 11 more than we've had everywhere else.
Tonight, Andi said he's starting to feeling better. We don't have anything formally planned for Wednesday so we're going to explore Bangkok on our own if Andi's feeling up to it. Wednesday night, we're going to check out the night markets where they have a ton of shopping. From what we've heard, you can buy ANYTHING at these markets including knock-off handbags and watches, clothes, jewelry, food, etc. I can't wait to see it ... and load up on goodies to take back with us.
We also booked another hotel room for the remainder of our time in Bangkok. We've deemed Lebua the "sick hotel" and our room has a strange sicky smell to it. Having been cooped up in here for the last 2 days has me itching to get out of here anyway.
Tomorrow (Thursday) we've arranged a day trip with Absolute Explorers. That's the countryside bicycling tour of Bangkok through small villages, markets and temples. Friday we've booked an English-speaking tour guide to our us around all the Bangkok sites.
No time for Chiang Mai on this trip. We had to choose whether to do Bangkok or Chiang Mai due to the amount of time left on our trip. We decided Bangkok would be more worth our time. There's plenty to see and do here, so I'm sure we made the right choice.
